More flood warnings: 30 dead, trains canceled in Kenya

Heavy rainfall continues to lash Kenya, causing widespread destruction and displacement across the country. In the hard-hit North Rift region, floods have inundated farms, destroyed crops and displaced more than 400 families from their homes.

The Kenya Red Cross reported 38 fatalities and more than 110,000 displaced people across the country. Fortunately, their rescue efforts saved 180 lives. Infrastructure has not been spared either, with damaged roads and disrupted transport services further hampering relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Meteorological Department predicts continued heavy rains and officials and humanitarian organizations are urging Kenyans to take precautions. This includes avoiding flooded areas, seeking higher ground when necessary and avoiding roads during heavy rainfall.
