Punjab ranks fourth nationally in seizures of drugs, liquor and cash in election season | Chandigarh News

Poll-based enforcement agencies have seized cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and ‘freebies’ worth Rs 609.38 crore in Punjab since March 1, making it the fourth state nationally in terms of the amount of such seizures. Only Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan rank higher on the list than Punjab.

Sharing the news with the media on Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab Sibin C said the seizures included cash worth Rs 11.2 crore, 27.95 lakh liters of liquor worth Rs 18 crore, drugs worth Rs 563.53 crore, include precious metals. a total of Rs 14.94 crore, and freebies worth Rs 1.69 crore.

He said that there are 24 enforcement agencies actively operating in the state.

“Since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on March 16, the total seizure by all agencies is estimated at Rs 514.81 crore. Punjab Police has made the highest seizure in the state worth Rs 404.2 crore, followed by Border Security Force with Rs 23 crore, Income Tax Department with Rs 9.28 crore, State Excise Department with Rs 8, 29 crore and the State Goods and Services Tax Department. at Rs 5 crore, Customs Department at Rs 4.37 crore, and the Narcotics Control Bureau at Rs 2.54 crore,” Sibin C added.

Among the districts, Jalandhar topped the list with total seizures worth Rs 141.25 crore, followed by Amritsar with Rs 93.96 crore, Tarn Taran with Rs 59.55 crore, Firozpur with Rs 54.58 crore and Fazilka with Rs 42.1 crore.

Other districts with significant seizures include Ludhiana (Rs 27.86 crore), Pathankot (Rs 21.4 crore), Sangrur (Rs 11.7 crore), Gurdaspur (Rs 10.75 crore), Patiala (Rs 7.29 crore), Barnala (Rs 7.2 crore) and Moga (Rs 7.29 crore). Rs 6.73 crore).

All thirteen Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will go to polls on June 1.
