A decision on Saturday will be made regarding the extension of the closure of educational institutions

The decision on extending the existing closure of schools and colleges due to the heatwave will be taken on Saturday, State Education Minister Shamsun Nahar said.

“We are not sure about the temperature. It may rise or fall. We have two days off (Friday and Saturday) and after observing the situation we will decide,” she said on Thursday while speaking to reporters at her office.

Replying to a question, the state minister said: “Our minister will come home on Friday and we will take a decision on this then.”

To a question if there is an alternative plan for taking classes, she said online classes can be an alternative way but students in rural areas cannot afford it and decisions will be taken keeping all these matters in mind.

Earlier on April 20, in view of the ongoing heat wave, the concerned authorities extended the closure of schools, colleges, madrasas and technical education institutions across the country till April 27 (Saturday), which was scheduled to open after the Eid holidays on April 21. .

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that the ongoing heatwave will continue for 72 hours from Thursday morning.
