A severe heatwave is affecting Khulna division and several districts across the country

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has announced that a severe heatwave will sweep across Khulna division and several districts including Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur and Gopalganj at 9 am on Thursday.

A severe heatwave continues to ravage parts of Bangladesh; rain likely in Sylhet

Moreover, a mild to moderate heat wave is affecting Barishal division and parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, as well as Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban districts. These conditions are expected to persist.

The forecast also includes showers or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds or showers, likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with isolated hailstorms.

Due to a derailment, the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail link is halted

Elsewhere in the country it is expected to remain mainly dry, with temporarily partly cloudy skies. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain virtually unchanged nationally. Increased moisture penetration is likely to perpetuate the discomfort caused by the heat.

There is currently a trough of low pressure over West Bengal and its adjoining areas, which is affecting regional weather patterns.
