MQM-P ‘agrees’ on removal of Kamran Tessori

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) changed its strategy for the appointment of Governor Sindh as Kamran Khan Tessori is likely to be replaced by another party member.

The sources privy to the development said the MQM-P, which earlier refused to replace Kamran Tessori, has now shown flexibility on the issue.

The party sources said that lawyer Farogh Naseem has emerged as a strong candidate to replace Kamran Tessori for the post.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ruling party in Sindh, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), had demanded Tessori’s resignation from office, accusing him of “creating a political divide and widening the gap between urban and rural areas of the province to further expand.”

PPP Sindh Secretary General Senator Waqar Mehdi said Tessori has failed to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas and politics.

In the response, the MQM-P termed Mehdi’s statement unnecessary and unserious. “The PPP must address the growing sense of deprivation during its 15-year rule in Sindh. The PPP has no right to comment on the performance of Governor Sindh,” the MQM-P added.

It was earlier reported that Justice Maqbool Baqar (retd) has emerged as the frontrunner to become the next governor of Sindh.

Maqbool Baqar, who has served as acting chief minister of Sindh, was considered the strongest candidate to succeed current Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.

Speaking to ARY News, Baqar said people were providing him facilitation on his likely appointment as Governor of Sindh, but the former interim CM Sindh said he was not officially informed about the issue.

Before the government formation, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also responded to speculations about the replacement of Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori.

A journalist asked the PPP chairman as if his party has reservations against Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, who belongs to the MQM-P.

Replying to the question, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said his party has no reservations about any ‘specific’ person. He said the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were deliberating on appointments to various positions.

“The representatives of the PPP and PML-N will be assigned to the positions discussed by both parties. I am sure MQM-Pakistan will be accommodated in positions that have not been discussed.
